Year 12 Math Success!

71 Year 12 St Cecilia’s pupils have achieved a grade C or above in their Early Entry GCSE Mathematics. St Cecilia’s has a strong record of success in Maths. Mr B Rogan, Head of Mathematics in St. Cecilia’s College has stated that the hardworking pupils are on course for record results again this year.

St. Cecilia’s College was inspected by the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) in 2015. Just some of the positive findings the independent testament found were that:

“The teachers promote successfully a positive disposition towards mathematics and have high expectations for what the pupils can attempt and ultimately achieve.”

This is still ringing true for St. Cecilia’s pupils who are encouraged to Aspire, Endeavour and Achieve. Pupils who were asked to state how they felt about their early grade achievements were elated, excited and pleased that their grade attainment has already begun even though it is only January of the final GCSE year.

ETI also found that in St. Cecilia’s: “Over the past three years, the percentage of pupils attaining five or more GCSE examinations, or equivalent, at grades A* to C has been significantly above the NI average for similar non-selective schools …The percentage of pupils attaining five or more GCSEs, including English and mathematics, is consistently well above the NI average for similar schools.”

St. Cecilia’s Principal, Martine Mulhern was immensely proud of the accolade for the pupils: “St. Cecilia’s pupils are supported by parents and staff working in tandem so pupils can achieve their full potential.”

ETI report about the College also stated: “There is evidence of a genuine rapport between the pupils, teachers and peers which fosters a positive climate for learning.”
